Sticky Label Printers

Sticky Label Printers

Sticky Label Printing works with 3 printers. Star TSP650II that is specific for sticky labels, Epson L90, and Epson L100.

Star TSP650II

Epson L90

Epson L100

Sticky Label Printers MUST be hardwired to your local network via an Ethernet cable.

There are a few new settings to be found under POS Settings --> Configure Printers --> More

  • Label Printer - Toggle to use this print queue as a label printer
  • Rotate 90 - This will turn the prints 90 degrees, this is handy to keep the prints smaller and save paper, however if prints are too long (like if there are many modifiers, and customer info) the print will carry over to a second, separate print. Customers should be advised to not use Rotate 90 if they intend to use CRM data on prints, or have many modifiers.

Part of toggling the Print Queue to be a Label Printer is automatically turning on "One Product per Page". There is no need to turn this on to use the Label Printer.

Labels, what size and where to get them.

The Star 654 Sticky Label  Printer has a "Take Away" sensor and will wait until the sticky label is removed from the printer before printing the next to avoid the labels piling up and sticking together into a huge mess. It does not have an alarm to notify of that a print is waiting. The Take Away sensor is on the very far right edge, for this reason, the only paper recommended is the full width 80mm unless a spacer is used to shim thinner rolls. The Star 654 does not come with a spacer.

Part is BTX 80x150 -- 80mm width -- 3” diameter. They come in cases

NOTE: The L90 is only for label rolls with liners. It cannot use "Linerless" labels unless it is the "Plus" Model, it is not recommended to use the L90 as a sticky label printer unless it is the Plus model. The L90 also does not have a "Take Away" sensor, the Plus model is equipped with one. The L90 is also equipped with an alarm to notify there is a print waiting.

The Epson L90 and L100 can use thinner rolls like the 40mm or 58mm however these need to be shimmed with the included spacer. The L100, and L90 can also use up to 350ft rolls instead of the 150ft. 80mm x 350.

Setting up a Sticky Label Printer

Sticky Label Printers are assigned and setup exactly like any other LAN Printer. Likely a new print queue will need to be created in the Back Office --> Product Management --> Print Queues. This will allow to only send correct products to the Sticky Label Printer.

After assigning the Printer to the Print Queue that will be used for Sticky Labels, we can goto the More button for the Printer. Here we need to Toggle on "Label Printer". This will also toggle on "One Product per Page".

If the majority of labels are going to be long, it is recommended to use the default setting. The default setting allows the Label to be as long as needed, but there is some wasted space on the right side, *assuming 80mm wide labels.

With Rotate 90° we can save a little space on short prints. If the print is too long we will end up with multiple prints because we are limited in length by the width of the roll. Multiple prints is typically undesirable for Sticky Labels. -See below examples

The wasted space could also be eliminated by going to a 70mm roll or 60mm roll, but this would likely require a spacer. Only the Epson L90 and L100 come with a spacer.

Print Samples

Rotated 90° - The labels below have no modifiers. This is a prime example of when we should Rotate 90, you can see there is a large bit of wasted space on the right side, this can be reclaimed.Same order as above but Rotated 90°. You can see all the extra whitespace on the right side of the print data is gone.

Rotated 90° But should not be- You can see the below print is an example if why we would not want to Rotate 90° if we are using a lot of modifiers. If we rotate 90° we are restricted in length by the width of the paper. Rotating 90° is only good if we have a limited number of modifiers on our products otherwise we will get multiple prints if the print data is longer than the label roll is wide.

Not Rotated 90° - The same order as above, but with Rotated 90° turned off. We again haver the white space on the right, but we only get 1 print.
