Automatic Cash Drawer

Automatic Cash Drawer

Cash Drawer Operation

Automatic cash drawers work via a spring loaded drawer with an electronically controlled catch. When the drawer gets an "open" command from a connected cash drawer printer it will trigger the catch to open the drawer.

  • To close the drawer, push it back in and it should catch to keep the drawer closed.
  • Cash drawers come with a 2-key set and a control cable.

Cash Drawer Setup

  • Unbox the cash drawer and stage it where you want it in the venue.
  • On the bottom of the drawer is a port for the control cable.
    • Insert the side of the included control cable labeled "DRAWER" into the port, making sure it is fully seated.
    • The cable uses an RJ12 connector, but is not compatible with a standard "land line" phone cable.
  • On the bottom of the printer there is also an RJ12 connection port.
    • Insert the side of the cable labeled "PRINTER" into the port.
  • Make sure the printer has power and has been assigned to this register in Rezku POS printer settings.

Test the Cash Drawer

To test the cash drawer, perform a cash transaction on the POS or, in a new order tap the More button in the bottom left corner of the screen. Then choose "No Sale" in the top right of the screen.

The cash drawer should pop open.

Cash Drawer Troubleshooting

If the drawer doesn't open...

  • Make sure the printer is turned on.
    • Check for lights on the printer.
  • Make sure the printer is configured on the POS
    • Print a test page to the printer.
  • Make sure the drawer is unlocked
    • If the drawer is locked, you will hear a click when it triggers but it won't open.
  • Check control cable connections
    • Make sure you're using the cable that came with the drawer.
    • Make sure the DRAWER side of the cable is plugged into the cash drawer and the PRINTER side is plugged into the drawer port of the printer.
    • Check that the cable is fully seated.
  • Make sure the control cable is plugged into the SW port of the printer and not into the ethernet, USB or other port in the printer.

If there is a long delay for the drawer to open...

  • This can result due to slow local network performance.
    • Reboot your router, switch and try different cables.
